Factory Showroom
Full Album Factory Showroom is the first of many of what would become TMBG’s longterm collaboration with engineer/producer Pat Dillett. Expansive rhythms and kaleidoscopic arrangements actively blend electronic, electric, and acoustic approaches. Lead guitarist Eric Schermerhorn’s lyrical lead guitar work shines on many tracks and the band’s pop craftsmanship reaches new heights on tracks like “How Can I Sing Like A Girl?,” “Metal Detector,” and “Pet Name.” Audience favorite “James K. Polk” finally gets the full band treatment here, and the track “I Can Hear You” holds the singular distinction of being recorded directly to a wax cylinder recorder at the Edison Laboratory.

John Henry TMBG take on a full band!
Full Album As They Might Be Giants expanded from live performance with a tape recorder to a full backing band, taking their new, fuller sound into the studio was a natural move, and John Henry, their first full length album with live musicians, documents this moment in TMBG’s evolution. Working with producer Paul Fox (XTC, 10,000 Maniacs) the band woodsheded in upstate New York at the legendary Bearsville Studios. While John Henry’s organic sound and fuller production initially took many by surprise, show-stopping staples like “Meet James Ensor,” “No One Knows My Plan,” “Spy,” and “The End Of The Tour” have stood the test of time.
Track List
Subliminal, Snail Shell, Sleeping In The Flowers, Unrelated Thing, AKA Driver, I Should Be Allowed To Think, Extra Savoir-Faire, Why Must I Be Sad?, Spy, O, Do Not Forsake Me, No One Knows My Plan, Dirt Bike, Destination Moon, A Self Called Nowhere, Meet James Ensor, Thermostat, Window, Out Of Jail, Stomp Box, The End Of The Tour

Apollo 18
Full Album The first album created with John F. and John L. at the production helm, it is not surprising that this album is both sonically adventurous and musically surprising. Along side the tight pop songwriting that is the band’s trademark (Narrow Your Eyes, I Palindrome I) the texture of impossibly dense, sample-based concoctions enter the picture (Spider, The Guitar, Hall of Heads). The album reaches a crescendo with the unknowable genre-shifting montage of “Fingertips,”an ever-shifting recording that was initially considered unplayable.
Track List
Apollo 18, Dig My Grave, I Palindrome I, She’s Actual Size, My Evil Twin, Mammal, The Statue Got Me High, Spider, The Guitar, Dinner Bell, Narrow Your Eyes, Hall Of Heads, Which Describes How You’re Feeling, See The Constellation, If I Wasn’t Shy, Turn Around, Hypnotist Of Ladies, Fingertips, Space Suit

Lincoln
Full Length As the band toured relentlessly in support of their breakthrough first album, they beat the sophomore slump with this inspired set of tracks. Using the brand new Alesis HR16 drum machine along with some primitive sampling devices, the two-man attack of the band flourished. The gated-guitar of “Ana Ng” would become a signature sound for the band, while The Ordinaires make a guest appearance on “Kiss Me, Son of God.”
Track List
Ana Ng, Cowtown, Lie Still, Little Bottle, Purple Toupee, Cage & Aquarium, Where Your Eyes Don’t Go, Piece Of Dirt, Mr. Me, Pencil Rain, The World’s Address, I’ve Got A Match, Santa’s Beard, You’ll Miss Me, They’ll Need A Crane, Shoehorn With Teeth, Stand On Your Own Head, Snowball In Hell, Kiss Me, Son Of God

A User’s Guide To They Might Be Giants Greatest hits
Full Length Compilation Rhino released the single-disc compilation A User’s Guide To They Might Be Giants – kind of a simple reduction of Dial-A-Song. The liner notes contain a listing of every show (as of the album’s release) TMBG played since 1985, compiled by the band. Also included is a timeline of events notable to TMBG fans, such as the election of James K. Polk and when worms evolved. Not only that, but it includes a full list of songs that TMBG has ever recorded as of the compilation’s release, a list of other musicians that have worked with TMBG, and a lot of other meaningless graphs and charts including the frequency of TMBG gigs held in places beginning with “new” and an incorrect list of presidents mentioned in their lyrics.
